Wendy L. Patrick, JD, PhD, Power Talks Speakers BureauWendy L. Patrick is a San Diego County Deputy District Attorney, recently named the 2014 Ronald M. George Public Lawyer of the Year by the California State Bar’s Public Law Section. She has also been recognized by her peers as one of the Top Ten criminal attorneys in San Diego by the San Diego Daily Transcript. She has completed over 150 trials ranging from hate crimes to domestic violence and first-degree murder.

Dr. Patrick has lectured nationally and internationally on the topics of sexual abuse, human trafficking, domestic violence, and child molestation. She has taught human trafficking issues in Hong Kong and South Korea. She has been involved locally with the San Diego Domestic Violence Council, the San Diego Child Protection Team, and the Sexual Assault Response Team, from whom she received the SART Response with a Heart Award based on her significant contribution to the professional field of sexual assault prosecution. She also lectures frequently on topics involving the safe use of social media, cyber crime, and threat assessment.

Dr. Patrick speaks to community groups, law enforcement organizations, and a wide variety of legal and educational institutions both nationally and internationally about the prevalence and methodology of sexual predators and stalkers, along with how to increase public awareness and take steps to protect the community. Her doctoral thesis for her PhD focused on research into the psychology of attraction as used to seduce victims and their families.

In her current assignment in the Special Operations Division, she handles cases involving sensitive issues, including threat assessment. She is also President of the San Diego Chapter of the Association of Threat Assessment Professionals. In her previous assignment in the Sex Crimes and Human Trafficking Division of the San Diego County District Attorney’s Office, Dr. Patrick prosecuted sexually violent predators, human traffickers, stalkers, rapists, and child molesters. She is Co-Chair of the statewide California District Attorneys Association Sexually Violent Predator Committee and the Human Trafficking Committee.

Dr. Patrick is a past Chair and Advisor of the California State Bar’s Standing Committee on Professional Responsibility and Conduct (California State Bar Ethics Committee) and past Chair of the San Diego County Bar Association’s (SDCBA) Legal Ethics Committee where she served a six-year term. She is widely published in the field of legal ethics, had her own ethics column in the San Diego Daily Transcript for more than a decade, and teaches ethics nationally on a regular basis.

Dr. Patrick frequently shares her knowledge as a legal analyst. She has over 270 media appearances and has been featured on CNN Anderson Cooper, FOX, FOX Business, HLN Nancy Grace, Al Jazeera America, The Blaze, and a wide variety of national and international programs. She has guest anchored One America News Network, and is a frequent radio contributor, having also served as a radio host.

She is the author of three books, her most recent titled Red Flags: How To Spot Frenemies, Underminers, and Toxic People in Your Life (St. Martins Press, 2015).
